Serie A outfit Atalanta are mounting a concerted push for the signature of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal backline, according to reports.
The defender in the sights of La Dea with a view to the new campaign? Nuno Tavares.
The summer, to date, has of course seen Portuguese youth international Tavares hotly tipped for an Emirates exit, just 12 months on from his arrival at the club.
This comes with the 22-year-old’s struggles in filling in for the so often sidelined Kieran Tierney during his debut campaign in north London having forced Arsenal back into the market for left-back reinforcements.
With a deal having this week been struck with Manchester City for Oleksandr Zinchenko, the understanding, in turn, is that Tavares will be granted a departure over the weeks ahead.
And now, it appears as though Atalanta have positioned themselves at the front of the queue.
As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Bergamo-based outfit ‘want this man as their new left-back’. The powers that be at the Gewiss Stadium have therefore begun ‘pushing’ to get a deal over the line.
It is reiterated, though, that an agreement is yet to be found between the two parties, with Arsenal having made clear that their demands for Tavares must be met.
Brighton & Hove Albion, meanwhile, are too keeping a close eye on the situation, amid Marc Cucurella’s ongoing Manchester City links.
🚨 @FabrizioRomano on Tavares: “Atlanta want this man as their new left-back – Brighton are interested, but Atlanta are really pushing in the last hours, but there is still no agreement. Arsenal always want their conditions to be respected.” [@QueGolazoPod] #afc
