I’ve never been that person to believe that just one player can solve every issue a team might be going through when in a bad spell. I think the issues will always be a collective thing and when heads have dropped and confidence is lost, the answers to how to turn things around are often quite complex.
But there is no doubt in my mind that if Omari Hutchinson is playing for Chelsea’s first team on a regular basis, he will certainly help in going a little way to solving some of Chelsea’s current problems that have seen them go through a poor run of league form of late.
This is because he is one of the rare players that Chelsea have who is not only direct, but actually brings a tremendous threat whilst being direct. I haven’t’ seen a Chelsea player as effective at doing this since Eden Hazard, and I naturally try to be careful with mentioning players in the same breath as Hazard.
But Hutchinson has it all, and he shined for Chelsea on Sunday in a friendly against Aston Villa, a game in which we lost, but that was irrelevant. Villa had a full strength team out, and Chelsea’s was full of mainly rising academy stars, Hutchinson being one.
Hutchinson was the star of the show on the right hand side, always looking to be direct, dangerous, and make things happen. For me, he has proven that he absolutely must stay in our first team for the rest of this season and not only that, I’d be starting him over any other winger in our squad.
His decision making is great, and he is far from just a direct dribbler, he also has a good cross on him and knows when to try and take it on, or when to keep the ball and make a pass instead. Huge prospect.
Chelsea often look poor in the final third and lack creativity, finesse, bravery on the ball, and good decision making. Hutchinson can instantly improve that and bring it all to the table.
We do need to be careful not to try and hype up young players at times, but when I see a player like Hutchinson, who genuinely has the X-factor, I have no fear in praising him, and would have no fear if he was starting every game for Chelsea right now, which he should be.
