Manchester United will need to pay big in January to acquire Inter Milan right back Denzel Dumfries.
Over the World Cup break, Dumfries has emerged as a target for Erik ten Hag.
The United boss has made no secret of his desire for a right-sided fullback to come in and assist Diogo Dalot and provide competition for him.
The only other senior right-back at the club, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, has been more than rendered surplus to requirements, and there is talk of a January loan move to West Ham.
Several other names have been mentioned beyond Dumfries, including Jeremie Frimpong and Lyon’s Malo Gusto.
However, it looks like Ten Hag prefers Dumfries, who enjoyed a stellar tournament with the Netherlands before Argentina knocked them out in the quarter-finals.
Fabrizio Romano reports, “Manchester United are interested in Denzel Dumfries, but Inter Milan are intent on keeping him.”
“€40/45 million could lead to negotiations with Inter.”
“Inter wants to make sure he [Dumfries] stays.”

Romano admits that it would be challenging for the Red Devils to lure Dumfries from the San Siro but concedes it would not be impossible.
After the Netherlands game against the USA, in which the 26-year-old defender excelled, Dumfries was questioned by the press about a potential move to the Premier League with Chelsea.
He refused to be pulled too much into discussing his future but described the links to the London club as a “big compliment.”
Dumfries also reiterated his love and commitment to the Nerazzurri without explicitly confirming he would be there until the end of the season.
