Manchester United captain Harry Maguire‘s future is up in the air after the centre-back lost his place under new manager Erik ten Hag this season.
The England international has made only 12 starts across all competitions this season, with a mere five coming in the Premier League.
The Dutch boss has settled on a defensive partnership of World Cup winners Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez and the 30-year-old has effectively found himself to be fifth-choice at the club.
Maguire has lost his place under ETH
Even when he has got the chance to play, the former Ajax coach has preferred to use him as the right-sided centre-half instead of the left, where has played for most of his career.
Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof have got the chance to play as the left centre-back instead of Maguire.
So far, reduced game-time at club level has not affected Maguire’s international prospects with Gareth Southgate continuing to play him in almost all games.
But the England manager has warned the United skipper that he needs to play more regularly or he might lose out on a berth heading into Euro 2024.
The former Hull City man has been linked with a plethora of clubs and the latest report from The Sun seems to indicate that a return to a former home could be on the cards.
“Harry Maguire is wanted back ‘home’ at Leicester — with a loan move on the cards next season. Brendan Rodgers is keen to take him back to the Foxes, where he was a massive hero.

“Rodgers thinks he would be a huge capture and can sort out a defence that still leaks goals alarmingly — the main reason they fear the drop.”
He is held in high regard at the club due to his services there and the fact that he left for a record €80million deal back in 2020.
However, United would prefer a straight sale as they would like to utilise the funds raised in their efforts to bring in an elite striker and possibly a midfielder as well.
Ten Hag wants to trim a bloated squad while also adding quality and Maguire is part of that list.
The report also mentioned that there might be bids from top-six clubs in the summer if Maguire decided to leave. A loan deal does not make sense for United considering Maguire’s age and they should try and go for a straight sale.
