With new co-owners INEOS on board, Manchester United are gearing up for a pivotal summer transfer window as Sir Jim Ratcliffe aims to take the club back to the top of the English football pyramid.
But after years of mistakes in the transfer market, United are facing FFP concerns and the first thing the British petrochemical giants need to focus on is selling players and raising capital.
That is exactly why Sir Jim is planning a summer clearout and even players who are currently out on loan are not safe from the planned cull.
Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood both are expected to be sold with Borussia Dortmund keen on holding on to the former Manchester City academy graduate while plenty of Europe’s elites want the United academy graduate.
Another loan for Sancho, Greenwood
But as was relayed by The Peoples Person, the Bundesliga giants are not in a financial position to pay over the odds for the forward who United brought to the club for £73 million.
They are eyeing a cut-price deal and are banking on the player putting pressure on the Red Devils to let him go as he has no future in Manchester for as long as Erik ten Hag remains manager.
As per HITC Football, INEOS are prepared to sanction another year-long loan in order to extract the best possible price from a sale.
“HITC has previously revealed that United have already had talks with Dortmund as they were informed they wanted a permanent sale – but the German side made it clear they would like another year’s loan and then a deal the year after.
“HITC understands that Sancho is very happy with life back in Dortmund and has shown little ambition to return to United – even though his main adversary Ten Hag could part company with the Red Devils.
“Like with Greenwood, sources have confirmed to HITC that United would like to sell Sancho – but would only sell him at a reasonable price, therefore they are already accepting that a loan deal for both players is the most likely option.”
Something along similar lines was relayed by The Peoples Person in the past and if Sancho can continue his good form, United could come close to earning the same amount from a sale in 2025.
As for Greenwood, he is being chased by Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and his current loan outfit Getafe just to name a few.
However, both the Catalan and Madrid giants are in no position to pay as much as United are asking for the 22-year-old versatile forward.
Might lead to more earnings
And this could mean United send him out on another one-year loan but not before they trigger the one-year extension option in his contract to maintain his market value.
After a great season so far in Spain, it is likely that the England international’s displays will improve even further as he regains more rhythm and he is likely to fetch a huge sum in 2025.
“HITC revealed earlier this year that both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid had both shown concrete interest in a possible deal – but Ratcliffe’s comments meant any hope they had of a cut-price deal were ruled out.
“Sancho is currently contracted to United until 2026, the same date that Greenwood is set to be – his current deal runs to 2025 but HITC understands that United intend to use that option – if a permanent deal is not concluded.”
United do need immediate funds and the duo’s sale could improve FFP situation especially considering Greenwood is an academy graduate whose sale would constitute pure profit.
INEOS might be taking a risk by sanctioning another loan and the players themselves might not be too impressed with another year of uncertainty but if it means earning substantially more, they could be on to something.
