Manchester United target Aaron Anselmino has been attracting the interest of many top European clubs.
The Old Trafford outfit’s defence has been a huge weakness all season, as oppositions have found their way to goal at will. The sheer amount of shots they have given up in 2024 is well-documented but no less terrifying.
The squad has also suffered a plague of defensive issues with no centre back really being able to build consistent time on the pitch, as there have been 31 different defensive combinations used all season.
Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire futures are all in significant doubt with all four players conceivably on the move this upcoming window. Therefore, only Lisandro Martinez and youngster Willy Kambwala look completely safe from the chopping block.
Even then, Martinez’s persistent injury problems continues to put a long-term question mark over his head.
Naturally, therefore, centre back is a department United are aiming to reinforce with Jarrad Branthwaite, Gleison Bremer and Jean-Clair Todibo all heavily linked to the Theatre of Dreams.
However, they have also been linked to young Argentine starlet Anselmino at Boca Juniors.
Under INEOS United have begun to look into the South American talent market in more depth to unearth gems, owing to the potential pressures of PSR this summer transfer window. Talents such as
Juan Gimenez, Franco Mastantuono, Ian Subiabre and Tomas Parmo have all been scouted by the Red Devils as of late.
Interest in Anselmino was first reported back in in January with United taking notice of the defender’s fine progress in the tough conditions of South American football.
However, with the Red Devils not yet having a sporting director in place – asa deal for Dan Ashworth still rumbles on – they have been paralysed from making any real concrete transfer plans. This has allowed other top teams to circle.
El Crack Deportivo report that the defender is attracting the interest of Arsenal, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and of course, United.
According to HITC, Old Trafford scouts were watching Anselmino score the winner in a 1-0 victory over Paraguayan outfit Sportivo Trinidense last week. However, it is also reported that Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Marseille also retain a significant interest in signing the player.
Supporters of the club will be happy that the new owners are spreading the net far and wide to try and capture some of world football’s most promising talents.
However, the lack of action taken on the player has allowed a plethora of other clubs to express their interest, and this could seriously damage the Red Devils’ chances of bringing in their target, despite registering an interest so early on.
