Ajax star Brian Brobbey has hinted at a possible transfer to Manchester United or Arsenal amidst links to an Old Trafford move.
United are on the hunt for a striker and considering Erik ten Hag’s long-term interest in a reunion with Brobbey, a move could be on the cards this summer.
During the January transfer window, United were mentioned to be in for Brobbey but the club’s poor financial shape brought about by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules rendered a swoop for the Netherlands international hard to get over the line.
When Ten Hag was appointed manager of the Red Devils in 2022, the 20-time English champions attempted to lure in Brobbey but the transfer never materialized. The goalscorer snubbed United and decided to instead re-join Ajax permanently following an underwhelming spell in Germany with RB Leipzig.
A report covered by The Peoples Person earlier this year relayed that the 22-year-old would jump at the prospect of playing under Ten Hag once more.
Despite Ajax being dreary this term as a collective unit, their talisman has still put up impressive numbers.
Brobbey has so far plundered 21 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.
He held a quickfire Q&A session with the Dutch edition of Men’s Health magazine and named United as one of the clubs he’d love to represent in future.
When asked which foreign team he’d love to join one day, Brobbey replied, “Real Madrid is a great club, but so are Arsenal and Manchester United.”
The Dutchman was then put to task about how much he believes interested parties would have to fork out to land his services from Ajax. He responded, “After the European Championships, I will be worth €80million!”
When further questioned about whether a switch to United could be on the horizon, Brobbey remarked, “I still have a contract here until 2027.”
His replies should certainly put United on high alert if they intend to press forward with their intentions to add him to Ten Hag’s ranks.
