Manchester United are among a clutch of top teams who have scouted Schalke’s 17-year-old starlet Assan Ouédraogo.
The club have been aiming to cast out their net in recent months to try and find some of the most talented players in the world. This can be seen close to home with players like Archie Gray, Chris Rigg and Daniel Rigge heavily scouted as of late.
However, the Red Devils have also been looking further afield with scouts taking a large interest in AC Milan’s teenage prodigy Francesco Camarda.
In addition, INEOS have also taken the decision to focus on South American talent and aim to exploit this market that Real Madrid have used to such great effect recently. This can be seen in reported interest in players such as Argentinian starlet Aaaron Anselmino.
Fussball.news now reports that United are keeping a keen eye on another young prospect in Ouédraogo.
Schalke, who now find themselves 12th in the second tier in Germany have had little to shout about recently, but the breakthrough of the midfielder has certainly given their fans something to smile about.
The youngster has quickly become an important member of the team, playing 16 matches and he has scored 2 goals and assisted a couple more. Therefore, his displays have attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs including United.
The German website reports, Assan Ouedraogo “is the mega talent of FC Schalke 04”, who even scored on his debut against Hamburg.
According to the source’s information, “a number of scouts recently took their seats in the stands of the Veltins Arena. Scouts from Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Italy and Germany wanted to take a closer look at him. The interest of Bundesliga clubs FC Bayern Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig is known.”
This is not the first time that the Red Devils have shown interest in the player as it was reported that Erik ten Hag’s side were set to compete with Chelsea for the midfielder back in October.
However, the winter months saw the midfielder miss numerous matches through injury and he has only been able to get back into regular appearances off the bench since the start of spring. Nonetheless, the giants of Europe are clearly impressed by the limited action they have seen as they continue to monitor him.
The 17 year old has been described as playing “the game with experience and composure that belie his age, and he has already shown he has plenty of strings to his bow. While he may not quite possess the passing range of Bayer Leverkusen head coach Alonso, Schalke’s starlet likes to drop deep and build attacks from there. However, he is at his best when using his explosive pace and power to break the lines like Essien did at his peak.”
Whether United pursue the midfield gem is very much up in the air but once again fans will be excited that the new regime seems to be keeping tabs on the most exciting up and coming talents in Europe.
