Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has assured fans that he will work hard in order to be back in action as soon as possible.
Martinez sent a message to supporters after confirmation from the club that he is out for the rest of the season.
The Argentine had to be taken off during United’s 2-2 draw against Sevilla on Thursday. A tearful Martinez was carried out of the pitch by his national teammates, Gonzalo Montiel and Marcos Acuna.
He was then stretchered into the dressing room.
Like Martinez, there is a strong chance that Raphael Varane, who also suffered an injury in the same game, will miss the rest of United’s campaign.
More tests need to be carried out on Varane before arriving at a conclusive determination. United staff harbour hopes that the Frenchman can still play this term.
Martinez took to social media where he expressed gratitude for the many messages of support and encouragement he has received.
The 25-year-old wrote, “Not the way I imagined what’s been a very special season would end, but sometimes we face obstacles along the way that we have to overcome to make us stronger and we learn from them.”
“I know that I’ll be back soon to go for more. In the meantime, I’ll continue to support my team-mates to achieve our objectives.”
“The messages & support I’ve received has been amazing, they’re giving me strength and encouragement.”
He finished off by saying, “Thanks to you all from the bottom of my heart.”

In Martinez and Varane’s absences, the onus will probably now fall on Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof to shore up the backline.
