James Garner to Everton confirmed – Man United News And Transfer News

With the clock slowly ticking towards the end of transfer deadline day, Manchester United are currently in the middle of negotiating a variety of outgoings — both temporary and permanent.

United do not have the best record when it comes to selling their players for a healthy profit. So far, only one permanent outgoing in Andreas Pereira has happened this window.

And now it seems the Brazilian international will be joined by United academy graduate James Garner who has completed his move to fellow Premier League side Everton.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the deal on his Twitter account and has also added that the player has passed his medical at the Merseyside club.

The fee is £15million including add-ons, and multiple reports have indicated that United might have undervalued the England U-21 international.

The only good part of the deal as confirmed by the Italian journalist is the fact that the Red Devils have inserted a buy back clause. They have missed out on this trick in the past and had to pay a big price when they re-signed Paul Pogba back in 2016.

“Medical already completed, terms now fully agreed with the player and £15m fee confirmed — with buy back clause for United. James will sign as new Everton player in the next minutes — five year deal valid until June 2027,” Romano tweeted.

Garner had attracted interest from multiple Premier League sides before he ended up picking Frank Lampard’s team. He was wanted by the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Southampton.

Did not work out under ETH

The United academy graduate was expected to break into Erik ten Hag’s team after impressing during his loan stint with Forest last season back when they were in the Championship.

During pre-season, he ended up suffering a minor injury and that meant he hardly had the chance to impress the new manager and ended up playing only one game.

Following the acquisition of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, Garner’s first-team minutes was set to drastically reduce and Ten Hag decided to allow the youngster to leave.

Fans will be disappointed to lose the youngster as they felt he had the potential to become United’s long-term central midfielder but United ended up deciding different.

The only silver lining in the deal seems to the fact that United have included a buy-back clause and that means they might avoid paying over the odds for their own academy product if they decide to go after him in the future.
