After rumours died down at the start of summer about Jackie Groenen’s future, United fans could be forgiven if they had been lulled into a false sense of security that the midfielder was staying put.
However, reports this morning suggest that Groenen could in fact be on her way to Paris.
Le Parisien reports that PSG have been in talks with United for several weeks and that discussions are advanced as they look to strengthen in midfield.
PSG lost Aminata Diallo, Lea Khelifi, Sara Dabritz and Luana as their contracts expired this summer and are looking for reinforcements to replace them in this area.
Groenen, who helped to win the Euros for the Netherlands back in 2017, started her playing career at SGS Essen with her sister before moving to FCR 2001 Duisburg up until their insolvency.
She made her WSL debut for Chelsea in 2014 as she helped them to a 2-0 victory over Bristol City but moved back to the Bundesliga in 2015 when she signed for FFC Frankfurt.
Groenen signed for United in 2019 and was the team’s first overseas player.
She has since gone on to make 50 appearances for the club.
Her contract was up in June but the club activated the optional one year extension, meaning PSG would have to pay the transfer fee if they wanted Groenen this coming season.
The Reds beat PSG 1-0 out in Toulouse in the Amos cup last week before losing to Bayern Munich in the final.
The futures of both Groenen and Ona Batlle hang in the balance with rumours of a departure also on the cards for the Spaniard.
Meanwhile, Alessia Russo has still not taken United up on the offer of a contract extension and the club will be doing everything it can between now and the end of the upcoming season to try and convince her to stay.
