Manchester City have seen their first offer for Marc Cucurella rejected by Brighton, according to the Athletic.
Pep Guardiola is looking to strengthen the left-hand side of his defence and is targeting the Spaniard.
City are about to lose Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal and will use that money to invest in a new left-back.
City have Cucurella bid rejected
City made an opening offer of £30 million which the Seagulls rejected without hesitation.
Graham Potter’s team value the player at £50 million.
The Premier League champions are prepared to make an improved bid but will walk away if Brighton refuse to lower their asking price.
The south coast club are open to letting Cucurella leave but are in no rush to sell him, especially not for a reduced fee.
More talks between the two clubs are expected in the coming days with City stepping up their attempts following the sale of Zinchenko.
The 23-year-old is open to a move to City and agreeing personal terms would no issue.
Cucurella was one of the most impressive full-backs in the league last season following his first season in England.
