An update on Chelsea’s interest in Frenkie de Jong has emerged and it’s not great for Manchester United.
For the entirety of the 2022 summer transfer window, Manchester United have been linked with Frenkie de Jong.
However, the Red Devils do not appear to be close to agreeing a deal for the midfielder.
De Jong is currently on a pre-season tour of the US and seemingly has no desire to leave Barcelona.
Spanish outlet Sport, meanwhile, claim that De Jong is willing to depart Barcelona, but only if the chance to join Bayern Munich presented itself.
Another name to have been linked with De Jong is Chelsea and now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the Blues’ interest.
Addressing the De Jong rumours, Romano wrote: “Chelsea have been interested in Frenkie de Jong for weeks, but they know that Man United have an agreement with Barcelona, and also that Frenkie as of today has no plans to leave Spain.
“So far, De Jong remains on the same idea – so Chelsea will not submit offers until they know that Frenkie has different ideas.”
Romano also explained how De Jong’s future could impact Manchester City:
“Bernardo Silva is a priority target for Barcelona but it hinges on Frenkie de Jong’s future – a deal is only possible if the former Ajax man leaves,” he explained.
“To date, it is not even a negotiation with Man City, just a Barca idea linked to Frenkie’s future. And it won’t be easy because Pep Guardiola would like to keep Bernardo in Manchester.”
