Manchester United are close to agreeing a new deal with Portugal star Diogo Dalot.
The fullback has been in fantastic form under Erik ten Hag this season having quickly established himself as a first choice player under the Dutchman.
Dalot’s contract was set to expire at the end of the current season, however the Red Devils triggered an option to extend the deal for a further twelve months before January.
Interest from abroad – particularly from FC Barcelona – no doubt influenced that decision, with the 23-year-old clearly too good a player to lose for nothing.
However with only a further season on his deal, the Catalan giants would have been unlikely to be deterred from a summer move for Dalot.
It appears as though that interest will soon be quashed, with the right back telling The United Stand:
“Yeah, I think it’s clear to see that we are in a position where we can talk about it. We are negotiating, we are seeing how both parties will be benefitted.
“It’s no secret that I am happy to be here. I love this club; I love to play for this club.
“So we’ll see how things will go but progressively we are in a good direction as a team. This is for me the most important part and I feel that individually I can help the team as I’ve been doing.”
“We’re talking about it, we’re negotiating!” 📝
Diogo Dalot talks about the plans for a new contract at #mufc, and says there are ongoing discussions, and hopefully it can be signed soon.

Having become a key player at Old Trafford, Dalot’s words will surely be music to the ears of fans and, crucially, also to Ten Hag’s.
With finer details obviously still set to be agreed to, there could be some cause for caution.
But it is clear from Diogo Dalot’s words and demeanour that he is enjoying working under Erik ten Hag and wants to be a part of the Manchester United project.
