Manchester United’s operatives are deliberately planting fake stories regarding the imminent takeover of the club so as to amplify interest to potential bidders, according to a new report.
This comes after the Glazers’ announcement last year that they are willing to consider a full or partial sale of the club.
Already, a number of bidders have expressed interest in taking over the reins at Old Trafford.
Ineos billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly declared through a spokesperson that he will be involved in the bidding process to acquire United.
As time goes on, other potential bidders are expected to go public with their intentions.
Fabrizio Romano recently reported that the Glazer family would prefer to be gone before the summer and allow the new owners to spend in that window.
According to Football Insider, there are plenty of gimmicks going on behind the scenes.
“Man United takeover operatives have deliberately sown and amplified false reports connecting a string of glamorous groups with what will likely be a world-record deal, Football Insider has learned.”
“Apple, Amazon, Facebook and Zara are among the household-name companies to have been linked with a takeover, which is being stage-managed by investment banking firm Raine Group.”
“The source claims that the erroneous stories were planted as part of an orchestrated campaign to illustrate the extent of United’s global appeal.”
Zara has stated that it’s not in the running to buy United at the moment.
As per Football Insider, tech giants Amazon and Facebook are also not in the fray as it currently stands.
It remains to be seen whether Apple throw their hat in the ring although their endeavour to acquire domestic broadcast rights for the Premier League would almost render them out of negotiations to take over United.
