Bologna technical director Giovanni Sartori has admitted that the Italian side will consider offers for reported Manchester United defensive target Riccardo Calafiori.
Bolstering the backline is a high priority for United in the current summer transfer window and already, INEOS are making moves to bring in reinforcements.
United lodged a bid for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, which was rejected by the Toffees. There is an expectation that Erik ten Hag’s side will table another offer.
Meanwhile, United are also actively pursuing a swoop for Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and talks remain ongoing with the Bundesliga giants to seal a deal for the Dutch defender.
It was stated that United reached out to Lille to declare their interest in the French outfit’s teenage defensive prospect Leny Yoro.
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that another centre-back United are keen on signing is Bologna’s Calafiori. The Italy international starred as Bologna qualified for the Champions League last season before impressing for his country at Euro 2024.
Following Italy’s elimination from Euro 2024, interest in Calafiori is expected to mount, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Juventus also thought to be admirers of the 22-year-old.
It was stated that Bologna want around €40m for Calafiori – a fee that would not at all trouble United.
Bologna chief Sartori spoke to the media (via Fabrizio Romano) and said that while the rossoblu’s desire is to keep Calafiori, it’s more realistic that he will leave for pastures anew.
Sartori remarked about the United target, “I can confirm that we will consider proposals for Riccardo Calafiori.”
“It’d be fantastic to keep him but we have to be realistic.”
He added, “In case of good proposal, we will discuss about that; and we anticipate clubs from abroad to move.”
