Piers Morgan jumped to Cristiano Ronaldo’s defence yesterday and publicly derided Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag for his failure to bring on the player in the derby debacle.
Through his official Twitter handle, which he has used in the past to defend Ronaldo, Morgan launched a scathing attack on the United boss.
Morgan tweeted, “Imagine benching Cristiano for United’s biggest game of the season.”
“Then using 5 other subs as they’re hammered into oblivion, & then claiming you did it ‘out of respect for him?”
“Ten Hag is an arrogant, deluded twerp & the way he’s treating Ronaldo is disgraceful.”

Morgan, an Arsenal fan, has made it known on multiple occasions his thoughts on Ronaldo being the greatest player of all time and the extent he would be willing to defend the five-time Ballon D’or winner he enjoys personal respect relationships with.
It seems this is not limited to publicly ridiculing the Red Devils’ manager.
Ronaldo did not feature at all yesterday in the derby debacle and had to contend with a place on the bench once again as he has for large parts of the Premier League season so far.
In his moment of trouble, Ten Hag chose to resort to Anthony Martial ahead of the 37-year-old to spare his blushes on derby day.
His faith in Martial somewhat paid off, as the Frenchman bagged a brace in the few minutes he was on the pitch to at least keep the scoreline from being downright humiliating.
Ronaldo’s minutes will likely become even more limited with Martial’s return after a spell on the sidelines with an injury.
Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano today indicated that should Ronaldo’s situation persist and continue, Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent will likely not start games, and his agent Jorge Mendes would be inclined to come up with a January solution in the form of an exit away from Old Trafford.
“JORGE MENDES WILL WORK AGAIN IN JANUARY…” @FabrizioRomano says Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent are likely to look for solutions in January if things do not improve.

It would be in everybody’s best interests that this happens. The legendary striker would move to a Champions League club where he would be guaranteed to start every week, while Ten Hag would be spared the constant inquiries about the player’s position in his plans.
