Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez will be ruled out of action for six weeks after suffering an injury during his side’s 2-2 draw against Sevilla on Thursday night.
Martinez had to be taken off injured and seemed to be in visible pain. He was carried into the dressing room on a stretcher, unable to walk.
The Argentine was pictured leaving Old Trafford on crutches.
There were genuine fears that his injury was serious and the player would not be available for selection over a number of months.
Erik ten Hag however dispelled these notions after the game but could not divulge further details before a proper medical diagnosis was carried out.
During the Dutchman’s presser today ahead of United’s game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Ten Hag was asked about Martinez and whether he had any updates about the World Cup winner.
He said, “It’s not even 24 hours. I don’t have a complete diagnosis so I can’t tell at this moment.”
“I have an idea what it is but I can’t speculate.”

As per Gaston Edul, a prominent Argentian reporter with TyC sports, the 25-year-old will be out for six weeks while he recovers and undergoes rehabilitation.
Yesterday, the same Edul relayed the nature of Martinez’s injury – a fracture in the fifth metatarsal.
As per Edul, the player will be operated on as soon as Monday.

With Martinez and Raphael Varane also likely to be unavailable for a few games, Ten Hag is now facing a major selection crisis in the backline. The pair are his starting centre-back partnership.
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are the only other two senior central defenders left although Ten Hag has also used Luke Shaw as a centre back in Lisandro’s absence previously.
