Jadon Sancho has been linked with a move back to Borussia Dortmund this summer.
Sancho, 23, joined Manchester United from the Bundesliga leaders two years ago in a deal worth €85million.
The Englishman has, however, failed to maintain the high standards he set in Germany, where he became the most productive attacker in Europe besides Lionel Messi, since his transfer to Old Trafford.
Having not appeared for Erik ten Hag’s side since October, Sancho was sent to undergo individual training in the Netherlands during the winter.
He has scored six goal and contributed two assists in all competitions this season (34 appearances).
With Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and even Bruno Fernandes performing well on the wing this season, Sancho’s place in the squad is under scrutiny.
He is one of the highest earners at the club, bringing home €350,000 gross per week.
Sebastian Kolsberger of Bild Sport has suggested that a return to Dortmund is not off the cards with the young forward seeking a move away as soon as possible, which The Peoples Person reported recently. This report suggested that Sancho is keen for a temporary spell away from Manchester.
The report reads:
“According to Bild’s source, a return back [to Dortmund] is not out of the question. Indeed, talks with Sancho about a summer transfer have yet to be opened.
“Sporting director Sebastian Kehl, however, continues to always be in contact with his agents of the Project Elite Group.”
Sancho’s contract runs until June 2026 with the option to extend by one further year.
United would, therefore, demand a sizable transfer fee to recoup the large amount of cash they spent on a player with world-class expectations.
Kolsberger suggests that Dortmund would struggle to meet United’s demands regarding a permanent transfer fee, with a loan deal being the only consideration instead.
