Manchester United target Mikayil Faye is reportedly open to leaving Barcelona this summer.
The Red Devils have struggled immensely in the defensive department as of late due to a combination of a plague of injuries and poor concentration.
This has brutally showcased in the fact that no team has given up more shots on goal in 2024 in the Premier League than Erik ten Hag’s side.
The defensive frailty was clear for all to see in Thursday night’s shambolic 4-3 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
As a result of this, new part owners INEOS have made signing a centre back in the summer a priority and one name that has been gaining traction in the last couple of weeks is that of 19 year old Masia product, Faye.
United have been reportedly scouting the defender for months and it has been said that Barcelona would be open to a sale if they can have a buy-back clause in any future deal.
In addition, Mundo Deportivo potentially have some good news for the Old Trafford side or any club that is seriously pursuing the player.
They label the player an “inevitable transfer” as the player is “subsidiary” at the Camp Nou due to the sheer amount of centre backs at the club and the emergence of talents like Pau Cubarsi, who United also reportedly hold an interest in.
Importantly, the Catalan outlet also states that “if there is no possibility of playing in the first team, [Faye] plans to accept some of the offers he has already received. He had one from Girona in the winter market and Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and United are following him”.
Therefore, the player’s willingness to leave the Blaugrana would certainly simplify any deal for him.
What’s more, another positive for the Mancunian side is that Calciomercato report via TeamTalk “that either Arsenal or Man Utd can sign Faye for between €15m-20m (£13-17m)” and not the €30m discussed in the Catalan press.
What is clear is that he would only be bought for the future as he has yet to play a first team minute for the senior side but he recently hit the headlines by scoring a goal on his full debut for the Senegal national team, so he is clearly rated in their setup.
According to The Daily Mail, “Faye has impressed with his athleticism and physicality. His goal against Gabon also underlined his technical ability as he hit a controlled 30 yard shot with his left foot into the top corner during his country’s 3-0 win”.
INEOS have stressed that they want to sign the best up and coming young players so with the player being open to a move and Barca not asking for a crazy amount, this is certainly a deal the Red Devils may back themselves to do in the summer window.
