Manchester United sent scouts to watch OGC Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo during their match against Rennes.
The Peoples Person previously reported that the club held an interest in the player with rumours starting to ramp up as the transfer window opens at the end of the month.
The club is expected to sign another central defender to help with rotation for next season.
Erik ten Hag has rotated his defence quite a lot this season, the most out of any other position, mainly due to necessity after injuries and poor form caused havoc.
He will no doubt want to strengthen his options at the back after seeing both his first-choice defenders sidelined for an extended period and his captain’s form desert him completely.
Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire have been the understudies this season with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez often starting matches together.
A defender could leave the club in the summer, which could pave the way for a new transfer.
Fabrizio Romano recently posted a tweet on Twitter that Man United were scouting Todibo with a summer move possible this summer.

In the tweet he claims, “Understand Newcastle, Manchester Utd and Liverpool scouts were in attendance at Nice-Rennes game to monitor Jean Clair Todibo.
“French centre back could get top club move in the summer — with price tag understood to be around €45m.”
The 23-year-old has no doubt caught the eye of some of the top clubs around Europe after impressive performances.
However, Nice find themselves in 8th position in Ligue 1 with it looking unlikely that they will secure continental football for next season.
The price tag Romano is quoting at €45m seems extremely reasonable for United and he could be a great addition to the defence.
At the minute, Erik ten Hag will be focussed on trying to secure a striker and a midfielder as they look to improve on a successful season.
