Manchester United planning to sell Harry Maguire next summer amid mass exodus

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is in line to be sold next summer as part of Erik ten Hag’s continued revamping of the Red Devil squad, according to reports.

Ten Hag has made three signings since he arrived at Old Trafford this summer, adding Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen to his squad, but he remains some way off his ideal side.

And the Manchester United boss confirmed that Maguire will continue to lead the Red Devils this season despite his poor showing last campaign, telling the media that “Maguire is the captain” when asked about who would take the armband.

But, according to Football Transfers, that could change next summer, with Maguire one of three first team players considered free to depart even 12 months before they may well do so.

‘Maguire, who was recently named Ten Hag’s captain, is the most prominent name who is expected to be available for transfer after a thoroughly disappointing 2021/22 season”, they report. “Similarly, Brazil international Fred is one of those players the club feel they can get a return on, while in-form attacker Anthony Martial is another who is set to be allowed to leave.”

Such changes, though drastic, will have to wait until at least next summer following the mass exodus that has already occurred this campaign, with eight players having left Old Trafford already and more likely to follow.

The likes of Eric Bailly, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Phil Jones and Alex Telles are all thought to be free to leave should suitable offers come in for the defenders.
