Manchester United’s humiliating loss at the hands of Newcastle on Sunday was another timely reminder of the need to upgrade the team’s midfield options.
With Casemiro suspended and Christian Eriksen injured, the team has failed to effectively play out from the back and play the ball forward with any real conviction.
As already reported by The Peoples Person, manager Erik ten Hag has decided to offload a number of stars next summer as the club seek to raise capital for further investment into the team.
United have struggled without Casemiro-Eriksen pair
Loan signing Marcel Sabitzer could head back to Bayern Munich while Scott McTominay is the subject of interest from the Magpies.
Injured midfielder Donny van de Beek is also wanted by several European outfits with Football Insider claiming that former club Ajax are interested in a reunion.
United had brought the attacking midfielder to the club back when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the manager but are prepared to take a hit of around £15million to move him on and free up the wage bill.
“Ajax are keen to bring Man United midfielder Donny van de Beek back to the club this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
“The Red Devils paid a reported potential fee of almost £40million to sign the Netherlands international in 2020.
“It is believed that Man United would accept a bid of £25million for Van de Beek after a disappointing three-year spell at the club.”
Ajax back in for Donny
The 25-year-old has had a disastrous spell since arriving at Old Trafford but his luck was supposed to change under his former manager.
But the Dutchman made only 10 appearances before his season-ending injury with only four of them coming from the start.
Van De Beek clearly does not suit the style of play that Ten Hag wants to implement and it would be best for both parties to cut their losses next summer.
The midfielder is still held in high regard at the Amsterdam club and his sale could help the club in their pursuit of attracting a top-class striker and midfielder.
