Manchester United are flying high under Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils can overtake noisy neighbours Manchester City and claim second spot in the Premier League with a win against Crystal Palace later tonight.
Despite the distinct possibility of a title challenge, United are not likely to go for any big signings at the moment, with the Glazers unwilling to spend, as a summer sale looms on the horizon.
They have however scoured the market for possible bargains, as evidenced by the loan signings of Wout Weghorst and Jack Butland.
Now, according to Tuttomercatoweb, United have their eye on another stop-gap solution before the January deadline.
Fulham signed Kevin Mbabu this summer from Wolfsburg for a reported fee of €5.5 million(rising to €7 million with add-ons), but the attacking full back is reportedly already looking for pastures new, after having fallen out of favour at Craven Cottage.
Restricted mostly to appearances from the bench and in cup competitions, the former Newcastle United man finds himself playing third fiddle to Kenny Tete and Bobby Decordova-Reid.
Fulham are also discussing a possible deal for Cedric Soares from league leaders Arsenal, and Mbabu could soon fall further down the pecking order.
Marco Silva is well acquainted with Soares from their time together at Sporting Lisbon in 2014-15 when the pair combined to win the Taca de Portugal, the premier knockout tournament in Portuguese football.
The Portuguese international has also seen playing time hard to come by, making just two league appearances for the high flying Gunners, with Ben White having flourished in his favoured right back role at the Emirates this season.
The Cottagers already have Dan James and Shane Duffy on their books from clubs in the top flight, making a loan move academic.
If they are to shell out money for Soares, Mbabu will most likely have to make way, which makes him an interesting proposition in the January market.
Manchester United started the season with Diogo Dalot in the right inverted full back role. The 23-year-old was impressive in the early months, but has struggled with niggling injuries since the World Cup.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia have stepped up in his absence and performed admirably, but United could do with an attacking upgrade in this department.
Mbabu has the requisite skill-set to do a job for the Red Devils. During his time in Germany, the Fulham star showed many a glimpse of his abilities going forward, but he is prone to the odd error and an occasional lapse in concentration.
The Switzerland international has suitors like Italian side Monza showing concrete interest in his services, but a move to Old Trafford may turn out to be too hard to turn down.
