Manchester United are among a number of clubs in England closely monitoring Club America defender Sebastian Caceres with a view to possibly signing him in the future.
This season, United have struggled defensively.
In stark contrast to the team’s solidity last term, this campaign has seen United looking fragile and vulnerable whenever opposing teams attack.
Part of the reason why this has been the case is due to the high number of injuries Erik ten Hag has had to deal with.
At the moment, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia remain long-term absentees.
World Cup winner Raphael Varane has not been able to nail down a consistent run of games as he has been in and out of action due to different injuries.
Sergio Reguilon is expected to be available for the FC Copenhagen clash but has been on the sidelines for a number of games since the 1-0 win against Burnley on 23 September.
United have been linked to a host of defensive reinforcements including Benfica’s Antonio Silva, Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio, OGC-Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo, Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen and England international Marc Guehi.
According to Football Insider, Sebastian Caceres is also on the Red Devils’ list.
Caceres dazzled for Uruguay in their incredible 2-0 World Cup qualifying contest against Brazil during the just-concluded October international break.
The 24-year-old has formed a formidable partnership with Barcelona man Ronald Araujo. The defender has played the full 90 minutes in Uruguay’s last four World Cup qualifiers.
He currently plays for Mexican outfit Club America and is contracted to them until December 2024.
United are not the only party interested in landing Caceres. He is also being pursued by Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle, Fulham and West Ham.
Caceres predominantly plays on the right side of a centre-back partnership – where Varane usually plays for United.
