Jurgen Klopp rules out taking England job and says he may never coach again

Jurgen Klopp has ruled out taking over as England manager and hinted he may never work as a coach again.

The German left Liverpool after eight years in charge at the end of last season citing a need to take a break due to the all-consuming nature of the job.

His name was heavily linked with England following the departure of Gareth Southgate in the aftermath of England’s Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain last month but Klopp insists that does not interest him.

Speaking at the International Coaches’ Congress in Würzburg, he said: “I’m looking for peace and quiet, I’m one hundred per cent in the here and now and I’m enjoying it. It was just time to step aside and put the whole thing to rest.

“At the moment, there is nothing at all in terms of jobs. No club, no country.

“A few people must not have heard this part. And it would be the biggest loss of face in the history of football if you said, ‘I’ll make an exception for you now’.”

Klopp always said he would take a year out of the game after leaving Anfield before deciding his next move.

It was assumed he would return to a coaching job – Klopp has also been linked with the national teams of Germany and the United States – but the former Borussia Dortmund boss says he is leaning towards a different role.

“I’m going to do some work. I’m too young to only do padel tennis and grandchildren,” he added.

“Will that be [as a] coach again? I would actually rule that out at the moment. Let’s see what it will look like in a few months. Nothing is coming through at the moment.

“Maybe we can talk about it again in a few months. I still want to work in football and help people with my experience and contacts. Let’s see what else there is for me.”

Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino and Lee Carsley have also been linked with the vacancy.

Howe insists he is committed to Newcastle – despite suggestions he was not convinced by the club’s new structure – while Potter, Pochettino and Carsley have yet to comment.
