Former Liverpool defender and current TV pundit Jamie Carragher has accused Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand of being a Cristiano Ronaldo fanboy.
In a Twitter rant, Carragher alludes to Ferdinand not recognising his calibre and reducing himself to being a Ronaldo echo chamber.
Ferdinand called out Carragher, one of Ronaldo’s biggest critics since he arrived at Old Trafford.
Since the Portuguese lost his place in the team after Erik ten Hag’s arrival, the ex-Liverpool player has doubled down on his criticism of the five-time Ballon D’or winner, saying he was never a proper acquisition.
Through his Youtube podcast, Ferdinand launched a passionate defence of his former United teammate and questioned Ten Hag’s decision to leave him on the bench in such a crucial picture.
He issued similar sentiments regarding Casemiro, who also had to contend with a place on the bench.
The six-time Premier League winner then prompted Carragher, asking him whether he was still upset that Ronaldo did not shake his hand.
In response, the Sky Sports pundit said, “No, I’m delighted it [the video of Ronaldo snubbing him] went viral!”
“Rio, I know how it works.”
He added in his scathing remarks, “He’s your mate & you/Evra & the rest are on the group WhatsApp & he asks you to come out & defend him.”
“Don’t be his fanboy. You’re Rio Ferdinand for FFS!”

The back and forth between the two will only add fuel to Ronaldo’s fire, and it is unlikely that debates surrounding his role in an underperforming team will subside.
