Honestly, in a nutshell, IF any player is actively pushing to leave Chelsea, then kindly show them the door. I’m happy to turn my back on ANY player who is happy to turn their backs on our club and on us as fans.
On Mason Mount, there is no smoke without fire, and although there is always two sides to a story and we will never know the ultimate truths as to what has happened here and the actual details of those negotiations that clearly annoyed Mount’s entourage, the one thing that is clear, is that Mount is keen on the move to Manchester United.
I’d always been accepting of him at least being keen on a United move because of what we had heard about the negotiations, the fact that Chelsea apparently moved the goalposts and what they offered him originally. I have no doubt that we messed it up in that sense. But in these situations, there is often not just one person to blame even though we will always look for that.
The bottom line is that only the people in that room will truly ever know what happened with this, and we will continue to hear different things on this depending on which side is putting the news out. Chelsea and Mount always had different versions of events here, which is why it makes it so difficult to form an opinion.
I am not going to takes sides anymore, I have decided that much. And I am also in the view that surely, if Mount loves this club so much and wants to stay at the club he’s been at since he was a young child, then they can look past some mistakes in negotiations, and at least be prepared to sit down and speak properly with the new manager, and at least give it a go going into next season and leaving the contract situation open, rather than completely closing the door.
But according to Fabrizio Romano, they’ve completely closed the door on the contract by telling Chelsea in recent hours that they are NOT signing a new deal regardless, and he has already 100% agree personal terms and a contract with United. I’m sorry but to me, IF this is true, that IS actively pushing to move and basically forcing it. And as I said in my first sentence, if any player is actively pushing to leave our club, whatever the reason is, then quite simply let’s just let them go. I said the same about Kai Havertz, and now I’m saying the same about Mount – with both players seemingly now pushing to leave.
It will absolutely pain me to see Mount leave and go to United. And I will forever feel annoyed that we didn’t get this deal done when we apparently agreed with him a contract back in the winter and then moved the goalposts. That part will always annoy me and never sit well.
But I am also now feeling some annoyance to Mason due to the fact that he is clearly now actively pushing to move to United. I’ve spoken to a few Chelsea fans overnight, fans who have always been backing Mason with this, and even they are no longer in the thinking that they can defend him now.
It’s clear both sides are at fault here in some way or another. And it’s clear mistakes have been made. But if they cannot sit down like adults and both put Chelsea first here and back Mauricio Pochettino (Mase and the club), then just sell him. Please, end this annoying saga that I am absolutely sick to death of hearing and writing about now. The fans deserve better from BOTH parties on this.
Take the £60m, thank him for the good times, and bid him goodbye. I will never lose any sleep over selling a player who is actively pushing to leave our club. Chelsea are bigger than any manager, player, staff, or owners. The club was here before all of them, and the club will be here after all of them. If you don’t want to be at Chelsea, I’m past caring, goodbye lad.
