Manchester United drew 2-2 against Sevilla during their Europa league quarter final first leg, handing the Spaniards a lifeline after they were completely blown away in the first half.
The Red Devils now face Nottingham Forest in the league on Sunday night, hoping to quickly bounce back from the disappointment and further consolidate their position in the race for top four.
The 20-time PL champions have adapted quickly to life under new manager Erik ten Hag and remain in the running for three trophies.
With a sale looming over the horizon, the club focused on bringing in the likes of Wout Weghorst, Jack Butland and Marcel Sabitzer on short-term deals in January, but plans for the summer have already begun in earnest.
United are tracking a number of players scattered across the continent as Ten Hag looks to organise a full scale march for the PL title in his second season in charge at the Theatre of Dreams.
One such target is Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.
The Dutchman has been linked to a number of top sides following a string of excellent performances down Bayer’s right hand flank.
Frimpong has scored an incredible 8 goals and contributed 6 assists to the Leverkusen cause in just 27 league outings this season, and looks primed to make a career-defining move in the summer.
Manchester United in particular have been heavily linked to the 22-year-old, but the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also in the running.
Frimpong, however, was quick to dismiss the transfer rumors surrounding his future when he spoke to German outlet Sport1 after Bayer’s Europa League quarter-final first leg stalemate against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
He said, “I don’t know when I will decide about my future. I’m just concentrating on Leverkusen and the upcoming games.”
A transfer fee of up to 50 million euros has been bandied out for the flying Dutchman, who remains under contract at the Bayer Arena until 2025.
United have used the trio of Diogo Dalot, Aaron Wan-Bissakha and Tyrell Malacia in the right-back position this term.
Dalot has been the usual first choice when fit, with the Portuguese impressing in an inverted full-back role.
Wan-Bissaka is an able deputy, but there are genuine flaws in his game going forward, and United could do with an upgrade.
A former City graduate, Frimpong would have no problems adapting to the rigours of Mancunian weather and will provide worthy competition for Dalot, setting up United’s right hand side for several years to come.
