Harry Kane could be tempted by move back to Premier League

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Dietmar Hamann has suggested the club’s trophyless season may prompt Harry Kane to seek a summer transfer.

Kane only joined Bayern from Tottenham in August last year in a bid to finally land some silverware after failing to win a trophy during his 14-year stint at Spurs.

However, it has not gone as planned with Bayern’s 11-year dominance of the Bundesliga coming to an end with Bayer Leverkusen claiming the title under the shrewd leadership of Xabi Alonso.

They were stunned by Saarbrucken in the second round of the DFB-Pokal while last night’s last-gasp 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final also saw their European hopes ended.

England captain Kane has had a wonderful first season in Germany on a personal level, scoring 44 goals in all competitions, but Hamann is not convinced that will be enough to keep him at the Allianz Arena.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “I’m not too sure whether Kane is very happy because of the way things are going. He came here to win trophies, [and] he hasn’t won a trophy.

“He has a few years left on his contract but obviously that is an issue, I think which may get dynamic.

“If he is not happy there may be interest from English teams, maybe he is thinking about coming back home.”

Kane and Bayern can feel a little hard done to with the way they exited the Champions League.

Leading 1-0 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate heading into the 88th minute, they had one foot in the final and an all-German clash with Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

But Madrid substitute Joselu equalised following a mistake from Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and the Spain international sent the Bernabeu wild by grabbing the winner in injury time.

There was still time for some controversy with Bayern having an equaliser from Matthijs de Ligt ruled out for offside with the assistant referee raising his flag immediately before letting the move play out.

Hamann added: “Up until the 88th minute I think everybody thought they were going to do it. On top of that was the offside decision in the last minute, where the linesman shouldn’t have put the flag up but he did.

“Obviously the Real Madrid players stopped playing so we don’t know if he would have scored if he hadn’t taken the flag up. Disappointing end to a very disappointing season.”
