Former Chelsea boss Graham Potter is very interested in becoming Manchester United boss in the summer.
The future of Erik ten Hag has been one of the most discussed issues over the past few months by the fans and media alike.
The Dutchman has massively struggled to live up to the expectations set last year with the team performing poorly in all competitions except the FA Cup.
Supporters have also been left hugely disillusioned with the style of play which can be characterised as chaotic and relying on individual brilliance, rather than there being any sort of coherent team play in either defence or attack.
With United being 11 points from the top five with only 21 points left to play for, it is very probable that Old Trafford will once again be without Champions League football and this has traditionally meant the sack for United bosses.
The club have been linked to managers such as Thomas Tuchel, Roberto De Zerbi, Thiago Motta and Gareth Southgate.
However, Graham Potter is a name that just won’t go away. The former Chelsea boss is well-liked by United’s new owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Soon-to-be named sporting director, Dan Ashworth, is also reported to have met with the English coach recently and they know each other well from their time at Brighton.
GIVEMESPORT now provide a big update, reporting that sources have told them, “Manchester United have been boosted in their hopes of potentially appointing Graham Potter as their next manager as the out-of-work tactician would be seriously interested in replacing Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout”.
“Potter would be interested in embarking on the next challenge of his managerial career if the Manchester United job comes his way, but he is also keeping his eye on the possibility of Edin Terzic being dismissed by Borussia Dortmund as he is keen on Signal Iduna Park as an alternative destination”.
The 48 year old is said to have recently turned down the Ajax job but has also been linked to Borussia Dortmund should the man currently in the hotseat receive the sack at the end of the season.
The website claims, he “is harbouring doubts over whether to take charge of Eredivisie side Ajax due to being aware that he would be in danger of having little time to turn their fortunes around”.
Whatever United fans think about Graham Potter, he is certainly a viable candidate for the role in INEOS’ books.
They tried to bring him in as manager at Nice, Ashworth clearly likes him and he fits the role of a coach who will fit into a system and probably not try to dominate like a Jose Mourinho type coach.
The obvious drawback is that despite impressing at Brighton, he failed miserably at Chelsea, not even lasting a season in charge. Furthermore, Roberto De Zerbi has come in at the Seagulls and taken them to a new level, showing Potter’s work on the south coast of England was hardly unique.
The English coach is certainly not the most popular choice for fans but until he accepts a different role, or United decide to keep Ten Hag, his name will continue to be intertwined with United’s.
