The team could only be chosen from players Fred has played with at club level.
Fred‘s side features five players from United and six from his first professional side, Brazilian first division outfit, Internacional.
David de Gea takes his place in goal – the Spanish stopper has been a constant behind Fred in his five seasons at Old Trafford.
The back four doesn’t feature one United player, leaving an all Brazilian cast; Kleber, Juan, Indio and Gabriel all played with Fred during his time at Internacional.
Fred‘s decision to not name a United player in his back line rather sums up the club’s issues with finding a settled back line over the last half a decade.
Paul Pogba and Guinazu assume the central midfield roles. Pogba assisted Fred‘s first goal for United against Wolves at Old Trafford, clearly leaving fond memories.
In front of them are Bruno Fernandes and Juan Mata. Bruno’s influence since joining United has been arguably unmatched to anyone else’s during Fred‘s time at the club,
Mata, a favourite with teammates and fans alike, isn’t a surprise given his technical ability.
The two centre forwards both have United connections despite Fred playing with one at Internacional rather than at Old Trafford.
Diego Forlan lines up next to Cristiano Ronaldo. Over a thousand career goals between them and world class pedigree, its difficult to argue against the Brazilian’s choices at the top end of the pitch.
Fred is currently chasing World Cup glory in Qatar with Brazil cruising through to the Quarterfinals after a 4-1 win against South Korea last night.
Brazil will meet Croatia in the quarter finals on Friday evening.
