Manchester United’s Anthony Elanga has been the subject of interest from Everton during the January transfer window but any possible move is now up in the air.
Following Everton’s defeat to struggling West Ham, manager Frank Lampard was relieved of his duties yesterday.
Elanga has been drawing attention from a number of clubs including Borussia Dortmund and Everton.
Earlier in the month, Fabrizio Romano said “understand player side would be open to Bundesliga move, Everton are also interested. Decision up to Man United.”
Romano later added that Dortmund were the youngster’s preferred option over the Merseyside club, but a now managerless Everton may remove the option altogether.
Sitting second from bottom with 15 points from 20 matches, Everton have been struggling all season.
Currently without any named replacement in the manager seat, the environment at the club is far from ideal for the development of a young player.
With time also running out in the January transfer window, any move for the Swedish international increasingly looks unlikely.
Having only played 602 minutes so far this season, Elanga was reportedly open to a temporary exit in search of more regular playing time.
Yet to score this season and with only one assist to his name, the Swedish international has had struggles of his own during the campaign and regular playing time away from the pressure of Manchester United would have been helpful for his personal development.
But with Sancho’s status still up in the air and Facundo Pellistri failing to breakthrough as of yet, Elanga is seen as an important depth option by Erik ten Hag.
As a result, Elanga looks set to remain at United as ten Hag battles the upcoming fixture congestion.
