Sunday saw yet another come-from-behind win for Manchester United, their tenth under Erik ten Hag and it ensured that the Red Devils would be once again going to Wembley.
Just last month, the Red Devils lifted the Carabao Cup and now after beating Fulham 3-1, they are all set to face Brighton in the FA Cup semifinal at the iconic venue.
The quarterfinal was a difficult game for the Old Trafford side with the Cottagers looking the better side and deservedly took a second-half lead.
United need injection of quality in midfield
A moment of madness and a rush of blood saw two Fulham players and the manager get red carded which changed the game for the Reds.
The game was made difficult due to Casemiro missing out after he saw his second red of the season against Southampton in the league last week.
Without the Brazilian, United lacked defensive acumen and the ability to play line-breaking passes with Scott McTominay not even coming close to replicating his early season form.
Erik ten Hag knows how difficult it gets for his side when the Brazil international is not playing and he needs to find a Plan B ahead of next season with McTominay’s future up in the air.
The likes of Frenkie de Jong, Alexis Mac Allister, Declan Rice and Romeo Lavia have all been linked with a move to The Theatre of Dreams next season.
The latest star to join the list is Marko Grujic of Porto. Premier League fans will remember him from an unsuccessful stint at arch-rivals Liverpool.
But the Serb has rediscovered himself since his move to Porto for £10.5 million and is now a regular for the Portuguese giants.
The 26-year-old has played 30-times for Porto this season, 21 as a starter and has scored once and assisted another. He also represented his country in the Qatar World Cup.
According to Telegraf, both AC Milan and United are admirers with both having having established contact with the player’s entourage through intermediaries.
Grujic emerges as surprise candidate
“Manchester United and Milan are seriously inquiring about Grujic.
“Contacts have already been established through intermediaries, so in the summer the Serbian national team player could change his environment and move to England or Italy,” the report mentioned.
Porto are expected to pocket a healthy profit from the deal if it materialises but Grujic’s past affiliation with the Anfield side could scupper the chances of a potential deal.
“He often pointed out that he has been a big fan of Liverpool since childhood, and there is no doubt that by transferring to Manchester United, he would disappoint the fans of his former club, who loved him despite the fact that he did not leave a significant mark on Anfield.”
While the Serbian international is much improved from his Liverpool days and is versatile enough to play all across the midfield, whether he is better than the options Ten Hag already has remains in doubt.
