Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Manchester United have not made any contact for managerial target Graham Potter.
United have suffered a lot this season, with the dreaded combination of poor football and worse results. They have lost 12 Premier League matches and sit in an embarrassing seventh place, which could potentially not even be enough to secure Conference League football next season.
The Red Devils have also endured the embarrassment of being knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages.
This has meant that Erik ten Hag’s position as manager is under serious review and it is expected INEOS will decide to part ways with the Dutchman at the end of the season.
Naturally, this has led to huge speculation over who will become the next manager, with Thomas Tuchel, Roberto De Zerbi, Graham Potter, Gareth Southgate and Julian Nagelsmann all being linked to the Old Trafford hotseat.
However, recent reports have suggested that Southgate and Nagelsmann are unlikely options, with The Peoples Person already relaying that Southgate has not been contacted by United and is focused on England’s Euro 2024 campaign. Additionally, it has been reported that Nagelsman is on the verge of being appointed the new Bayern Munich coach.
Therefore, Graham Potter may be seen to be in the lead, as it had been previously reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe wanted to give the Nice job to the Englishman and that Dan Ashworth had met the coach to potentially discuss a future role at United.
Moreover, there were reports that Potter was “seriously interested” in the job at Old Trafford and would prioritise it over a move to Borussia Dortmund or Ajax. However, Fabrizio Romano has now tempered expectations on this.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT the Italian journalist said, “at the moment, they haven’t made contact with Graham Potter, Gareth Southgate or Julian Nagelsmann, from what I understand”.
“INEOS know Graham Porter very well because they wanted him at Nice. For sure, he is a manager who is appreciated, but it doesn’t mean that they appreciate the same manager for Nice and Manchester United. They didn’t make recent contact with Graham Potter for the Manchester United job, from what I understand, so that’s the situation around him”.
The news will probably be met in a mixed way by United fans. The Englishman is by no means a popular choice among fans, with his failings at Chelsea still incredibly fresh in the memory.
However, supporters are beginning to get a little edgy that while it seems more obvious with every passing week that Ten Hag is not the man to lead United forward, INEOS do not seem to be making any progress in finding a solution to the problem.
