Noussair Mazraoui might just have put Erik ten Hag on red alert with his comments over his happiness at Bayern Munich.
The Moroccan has not started a Bundesliga match for the Bavarian giants since the 8th of November, where he set up two goals on route to a 6-1 win over Werder Bremen.
After that, he flew off to Qatar and made history with the Moroccan National Team by making the semi-finals.
Mazraoui was exceptional playing at left back, despite his preferred position being on the right side of the defence.
But Erik ten Hag will already have known all about the player’s qualities, having managed him to great success at Ajax before joining Manchester United.
Mazraoui played to role of a Ten Hag fullback perfectly, providing an excellent attacking threat with his energy and movement, often inverting into midfield and pushing right up against the opposition back line.
And despite the improved form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot this season, reports indicate that the manager is on the lookout for a fullback who can give United what Mazraoui gave Ajax.
The Moroccan could be his own answer, given his most recent comments.
“Of course. I was a starter before the World Cup. Now I’m fit and don’t get any game time,” Mazraoui told Maximilian Koch (quotes via Fabrizio Romano).
“I’m not even second or third choice. It’s too early to talk about my perspective here – but it’s not good!”
While he stopped short of pushing for an exit, it is clear that a player of Mazraoui’s talent should be playing more regularly. And who better to help him recapture his form than the manager who brought him through at Ajax.
Add to that the good relationship between Manchester United and Bayern Munich – the two clubs will already have plenty to talk about in the coming months owing to Marcel Sabitzer’s good form on loan – and chances of another Ten Hag reunion start to look rather high.
