Initially I didn’t expect this week to be overly busy and I especially didn’t think deadline day would be too busy. I believed that all our most important business would be done before then, and maybe it still will be and actually, a lot of our most important business HAS actually been done.
But there will be more this week and I reckon we might even see a shock sale or two come the end of it.
We could still see some surprise outgoings at the club this week, Marc Cucurella could still be one. Although now the news is out everywhere, he wouldn’t really be classed as a surprise now I guess. The Cucurella and Ian Maatsen situation is another one to watch/sort out. Maatsen still hasn’t signed a new contract extension yet but maybe if Cucurella goes out the door this week then it might be enough to convince him to extend.
Romelu Lukaku should get done to Roma today or very soon, Callum Hudson-Odoi is being linked to Nottingham Forest but nothing yet seems too close on that one. That’s another situation that needs sorting out.
Malang Sarr is still at the club and we haven’t seen anything solid on where he might end up yet, if anywhere.
Trevoh Chalobah and Conor Gallagher have had question marks over their futures all summer so something could still happen with them, even though Gallagher seems to be enjoying his football at Chelsea right now and Mauricio Pochettino is picking him every game at the moment.
I’d also be inclined to watch the attacker situation with Noni Madueke potentially still a loan candidate, and decisions to make on Deivid Washington, Mason Burstow, and Armando Broja.
It’s going to be a very interesting week that’s for sure.
