RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku is expected to be joining Chelsea in the summer. Despite not having any official confirmation by either club yet, every top source has stated that he will be a Chelsea player come the summer. It’s the worst kept secret in football, perhaps?

We have seen some quotes from the pending new Chelsea forward today, and it is about his preferred position, which Blues fans will find very interesting.
Christopher Nkunku said:
“I think that (attacking midfield) is a position that suits me well. Close to the goal behind a striker. That describes me as a player nicely so I always like playing in this role.”
So there you have it, he wants to play as an attacking midfielder, and not as a striker.
So this once again draws me to a concerning conclusion, that we still lack a true number nine.
Our attacking midfield and wide options for next season are going to be immense, especially if we keep Joao Felix. But how on earth we are going to get everyone in is beyond me. What a great problem for Graham Potter to have!
Nkunku will be a real menace in behind, but again, like Kai Havertz, and like Felix, he needs to be alongside a more traditional number nine. I am sure the club know this though and are planning it.
Go get me Ivan Toney from Brentford (betting ban dependent), I think he’d be a sound option and will not cost an arm and a leg.
Although, I’m also interested to see how David Datro Fofana does for the rest of this season, now it’s been confirmed by sources that he will be staying with us. Give him a chance to shine, Graham!
Either way, we still look light on proven quality number 9 options right now, and it will surely be an area we need to look at come the summer.
