Chelsea have been involved in many transfer sagas over the years, and some of these sagas have not always advanced and have always stayed as just interest only.
Every transfer window we hear about Declan Rice being a Chelsea target, and it looks like that is not about to change for the next couple of windows either.
West Ham have a stronghold on the England midfielder, but that stronghold will dither as the windows pass by, purely because his contract will be running down for each one.
Chelsea’s latest interest being reiterated by the reliable Matt Law of The Telegraph just today, will really test West Ham’s reserve going forward.
Chelsea are trying to jump up the Bellingham queue – Boehly trying to muscle in on Madrid and Liverpool. Interest also remains in Rice #cfc https://t.co/TUIQZMaSHH

It’s a transfer saga that has a real feel of destiny about it. I just don’t see him going to any other club than Chelsea when he does leave West Ham, and we know that he will leave West Ham, whether than be in the next transfer window, the summer, or the year after, it looks destined to happen.
His club will be wise to finally listen to offers next summer, because that might be the last chance they have to ask for a proper fee for him.
But it is clear that Chelsea wanted Declan Rice during the Roman Abramovich era but didn’t want to pay his large fee. It’s clear that Frank Lampard as manager was asking for him. It is clear again that Thomas Tuchel wanted to sign Rice as well.
And then now, it is clear once again that our new owners want to sign Rice at Chelsea. It really does just feel like a matter of time. The Rice ‘haters’ might just have to get used to it!
