Chelsea should prioritise a CM – Talk Chelsea

I was saying this even before N’Golo Kante got injured yet again on Sunday by the way, but it’s even more relevant now, Chelsea should be prioritising signing a new specialist centre midfielder who can play in the deeper six role in the latter end of this window.

Perhaps this is why we are seeing a pursuit of Frenkie De Jong? It may well be. But Chelsea need it.

We don’t know the fate of Kante yet, but it didn’t look too promising at all. And even if we get lucky with it and it’s not a bad injury, we know how injury-prone both he and Mateo Kovacic can be.

Chelsea need more in there, more cover, more quality, quick legs, and a player who is comfortable sitting.

I realise that Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek can play in that position, but for me that isn’t their best position, they are not specialist 6’s.

We know also that both Jorginho and Kante have contracts that run out next summer and there are no signs of extensions incoming at all.

So that just emphasises the need for Chelsea to go out and a get a new centre midfielder or two, and I’d definitely be prioritising signing one of them right now during this window.

I think it’s the most important position on the field, alongside a centre back and the goalkeeper. Having the core of your starting line-up strong, is so important.

Let’s hope Kante’s injury isn’t that bad regardless, because we still need him at his best right now, and for as long as we have him left at this club.
