Chelsea are currently going through a very tough spell, and although things got a bit better at the weekend after finally getting a win on board at home to Crystal Palace, Liverpool are next up for us.
We all know and see the problems, and there isn’t ever just going to be one thing. Everyone has had a stab and given their six pence worth, but I always find it interesting to listen to former players who have actually played the game, to get insight on that side of things. Especially players who played for a successful Chelsea team.
Frank Leboeuf is a Chelsea legend and a former club captain, and today he has penned an exclusive column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, and he covers a lot in there and talks about the current issues.

One thing he highlights is the lack of leadership, which is absolutely bang on. There is a real lack of that at the club, and it’s something that’s been a problem now for quite some time.
Leboeuf said: “Thiago Silva is definitely a leader for me, not necessarily by his personality but the way he plays as a technical leader. He shows the way to the youngsters. Cesar Azpilicueta because of his fighting spirit is a leader. Otherwise I see no leaders there.
“I think it’s the time for Mason Mount to show his character. He’s a guy from the club, the guy who can be listened to by the others because he represents the club.
“And Reece James, with Reece we feel it. With Mason, I don’t feel it yet. I want to see it because he is fantastic player, we all know that.”
He’s right, we really need players to step up to the table and become real leaders. I too can see it in both James and Mount, but we need to start seeing it now.
Another great point he makes is that the players have just not been putting in the effort they should be putting in when representing Chelsea FC, something that you could never accuse Leboeuf or other players in that same Chelsea team of doing. They played with their heart on their sleaves and blue in their blood.
Leboeuf said: “I’ve not been happy with what I’ve been seeing. I see players who get their big time money and don’t do 20% of what they should be doing.
“I’m not sure Potter has the players that he wants. We all know that we need a striker. I like Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, I played with his father and I love him, but I know that he’s not the guy we needed.”
Again, he’s absolutely not wrong with this assessment, and it’s nice to hear it from someone who played for Chelsea, and played very well for Chelsea.
