Manchester United managerial target Thomas Tuchel may not only stay at Bayern Munich but he may also try and steal away the side’s captain, Bruno Fernandes.
As usual, the Portuguese has been a talismanic figure for the Red Devils and the two games he missed versus Crystal Palace and Arsenal due to injury left United toothless in front of goal.
As soon as he returned to the team, they scored three goals against European hopefuls Newcastle United, once again underlining how vital he is.
There were reports that the player might be moved on as INEOS reportedly put every player up for sale who wasn’t a youngster like Kobbie Mainoo or Alejandro Garnacho but speaking after the match against the Magpies on Wednesday night, he claimed that he was happy to stay at the club.
However, there have also been reports that he feels he deserves pay parity with Marcus Rashford due to his huge importance to the team.
When you reflect on both player’s contributions to the season, it is hard to argue against Bruno’s case.
At one point it was thought Tuchel would have the chance to manage Bruno at Old Trafford but recent reports seem to suggest that Bayern Munich will try to extend the coach’s stay as their search for a new manager has been incredibly fruitless.
However, worryingly for United, one of the apparent conditions the German has set Bayern is that they try and sign the Portugal international.
The Independent report that “Thomas Tuchel wants Bayern Munich to give assurances on two specific signings before committing to a new contract”.
“A role that he feels has gradually grown in importance has been over a playmaker. Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes is one of the stars he wants”.
“Tuchel is now closer to a contract with Bayern but these two signings are seen as deal-breakers.”
Whilst it seems that Bruno is happy to stay at United after it was reported he had held conversations with INEOS, United fans will be scared by the interest from the Bundesliga giants.
It was also reported a few days ago that Bayern may consider a move for the player as his future at Old Trafford was becoming less clear.
Despite a rare trophyless season, Bayern are candidates to win every tournament they are in and can offer regular Champions League football to the 29 year old, something United definitely cannot right now and may not for the next few years.
United will hope their best and most influential player continues to show the loyalty to the club he has ever since he arrived in 2020.
