For me personally, Armando Broja getting a starting call at Chelsea is actually two or three games overdue.
However, there are arguments that due to the fact that he had an injury recently and has not trained as much, perhaps he wasn’t quite match fit ready. I’m prepared to take that into account. But for me now, there are no excuses for him not to start on Tuesday evening as Chelsea start their Champions League campaign for 2022-23.
The Blues travel to Croatia to face Dinamo Zagreb, and although there is never an easy game in Europe, Broja should be starting this one regardless. For me, Broja is our best current attacker other than Raheem Sterling, based on form this season.
Even in the cameo roles he has made, he looks like a real threat and brings something that none of our other attackers have, the physicality and presence of a real number nine.
He’s hungry and eager, and he will be a real problem for any defender. Given half a chance to score and he will take it. I think he deserves to get the nod on Tuesday night.
His recent comments as well this week, only prove that he has the perfect attitude and mentality to make it here at Chelsea, and I think he deserves to be rewarded with some faith shown in him now with a string of starts.
“He [Aubameyang] is a great player,” the Albanian international told reporters after Saturday’s win against West Ham, as cited by The Evening Standard.
“He has done a lot in his career so far and now he has come to Chelsea I can learn a lot from him. He has done it at Arsenal and Barcelona, so he is a good addition to the club and the team and he seems like a very good guy.
I am excited to learn off him and a few things he has learned. It is good to have that competition in the team.”
“You see speculation on the news but I am here now at Chelsea and I have signed my contract, so I am delighted to be at this amazing club. I have always been a confident boy so it is important to keep that and remain confident.
For me, I feel like I can help the team a lot. I will do my best on and off the pitch in any way I can. I believe I can.”
This is exactly what you want to hear from Broja right now and there are some really good signs for his future with us.
