Manchester United are still very much in the race for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and the striker is still available for transfer despite suggestions he has agreed to join Arsenal.

Securing the services of a talisman is believed to be a top priority for United heading into the summer transfer window.

Despite enjoying a promising debut season in England where he showcased flashes of brilliance, it’s clear that Rasmus Hojlund still needs support. At just 21, the Dane cannot be expected to lead United’s attack alone every week. The club also urgently needs quality depth up front, especially following Anthony Martial’s departure. This is where Sesko comes in.

United’s interest in Sesko can be traced as far back as two years ago when he was still at RB Salzburg. At that time, the Slovenian snubbed a potential Old Trafford switch in favour of continuing his development and football education at RB Leipzig and it’s a decision that has paid off.

In the just-concluded Bundesliga season, the 20-year-old notched 14 goals and two assists in 31 appearances. He managed 18 goals across all competitions.

Speculation regarding Sesko and the possibility of a move to United went into overdrive last month when his agent, Elvis Bašanović, was pictured at Old Trafford during the game against Arsenal. Days later, Bašanović spoke to a Slovenian news outlet and admitted that his client was attracting overtures from some of England’s biggest teams.

Alongside United, Chelsea and Arsenal have also been mentioned as parties eyeing a transfer for the 20-year-old.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Sesko prefers to sign for the Gunners and become the latest addition to Mikel Arteta’s ranks. It was further stated that a deal in the region of £45 million is in the works.

However, according to the reliable Ben Jacobs, this is not the case and Sesko’s future has not been decided.

Jacobs wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Situation with Benjamin Sesko remains open. Variable release clause has now risen to £55m.”

“Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and PSG all still interested. Arsenal and Chelsea with the most concrete approaches to date.”

“Sesko hasn’t agreed to any club yet. Leipzig have also put a lucrative renewal on the table.”

“Sesko has had a Saudi approach as well. Both Jeddah clubs, Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad discussed him, but no indication Sesko wants to move there.”

Jacobs also noted that Sesko is not the only striker Arsenal are looking at, in what could come as a boost to United’s hopes of landing the RB Leipzig man. The North London club also admire Joshua Zirkzee, Evan Ferguson and Viktor Gyokeres.

It’s important that United move with speed if they’re keen on securing Sesko’s services. Rival teams are not waiting around and it’s clear that most of them are intent on getting their business done early enough.
