Manchester United and Liverpool have shown interest in signing Schalke’s 18-year-old midfielder, Assan Ouédraogo.
According to BILD (via Sport Witness), the two Premier League giants have made ‘specific enquires’ about the talented youngster.
Sky Deutschland initially reported the interest from United and Liverpool, with Ouédraogo’s father confirming there are “written offers” from Premier League clubs, though he did not specify which ones.
Bild has now identified United and Liverpool as the clubs keen on securing the midfielder’s services.
The report also highlights the financial aspect of the potential transfer.
Schalke has set a price tag of €10 million for clubs playing in the Champions League next season, and €8 million for clubs playing in the Europa League.
Bundesliga sides RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt have also shown strong interest in the 18 year old.
As it stands, it remains unclear whether United or Liverpool are prepared to meet Schalke’s asking price.
The coming weeks will likely reveal more details about the potential transfer, as both clubs weigh their options and Schalke considers the offers on the table.
Ouedraogo has been labelled as the ‘German Pogba.’ He is said to resemble his physcial and technical traits at such a young age.
The German is a dynamic midfielder, who would add a burst of youthful energy into United’s midfield.
Often misprofiled as a defensive midfielder due to his physical attributes, Ouédraogo is best utilised as an advanced playmaker.
His combination of physicality and speed makes him a powerful runner, capable of driving through defences and central areas with ease.
Additionally, his height makes him a formidable aerial threat during set pieces.
