Manchester United legend Andy Cole has advised Marcus Rashford to go back to basics and remember what enabled him to get into the spotlight, in an effort to return to his electric former self.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, Cole said, “If I was Marcus, and this is just me I’m talking about what I would do or what I used to do, I would go back to basics.
“If Marcus asked himself “how did I get into the first-team” when he got into it “what was I doing” and looks at himself now he’ll know he’s not doing those things.
“So, if you’re not doing what you did then, how are you going to get better? Go back to basics.”
The treble winner warned supporters against blindly following Roy Keane’s comments that the attacker has lost the eye of the tiger.
As per Cole, Rashford still has bags of potential and must look within himself to get over the barriers inhibiting him from realizing his form from years ago.
The 24-year-old endured a nightmare season last campaign, where he lost his place in the team to Anthony Elanga. He also only registered a return of five goals in 32 appearances last term.
This season, the winger has already matched his tally of last season, scoring five in 10 games. Under Erik ten Hag, the Englishman has shown glimpses of what he can do.
Like Cole, Ten Hag urged Rashford that to knock on his high ceiling ability-wise, he must look to be more clinical in front of goal.
This is after the player missed a multitude of clear-cut opportunities in the Europa League against Omonia on Thursday.
Rashford should took to heed Cole’s advice, an ex-talisman who scored 121 goals in 275 games for the Old Trafford outfit during his time at the club.
The United academy graduate is only two shy of a century of goals for his boyhood club. There’s no better time to achieve this than tomorrow against Newcastle.
