Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo‘s loan took a far worse turn on Monday night, as he was made to feature for Sunderland under-21s against Leeds instead of the senior team.
Diallo played 90 minutes in the 1-0 loss.
The Ivorian transferred to the Stadium of Light from United on a season-long loan in search of first-team minutes, but so far his spell at the club has not gone according to plan.
Enduring a tough time so far, the youngster has made six appearances for Tony Mowbray’s side. Out of his six appearances, he has only started one game – a drawless affair against Blackpool.
This is the 20-year-old’s second loan spell since joining the Red Devils from Atalanta.
He spent a part of last season in Scotland with Rangers, which was also a mixed bag. He featured on 13 occasions for Rangers.
As a result of finding minutes with the Sunderland senior team hard to come by, the prodigy was named in Graeme Murty’s under-21s side.
On Diallo’s appearance and some other first team members in the clash, Murty said, “I loved it and thought as a football match it was exactly what the first team wanted when they got that amount of numbers dropped into the team and I’m really pleased with their application.”
“I’m disappointed with the result but I can’t fault the way they want about their business.”
“The idea is when senior players drop in to give them as many minutes as they can handle and I thought they went about it properly and it was a really good game of football.”
United fans and certainly the club will not be happy with their player’s situation.
How he cannot nail down a position or even be involved in some capacity with the senior players should be a cause for concern.
