Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has spoken on the importance of practice and repetition in his meteoric rise.

At only 21 years old, the Dane has found himself leading the line for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Two years ago, he was barely playing for Sturm Graz in the Austrian Bundesliga and now he has played 42 times for Manchester United in all competitions.

The striker has had a rollercoaster season where he has been on long goal droughts and barely had a kick in games.

However, with one game to go, the all-important FA Cup final, he is the club’s top goalscorer with 16 goals and he has found the back of the net in his last two matches, coming from the bench.

Speaking to France Football (via www.getfootballnewsfrance.com) Hojlund revealed the importance of working hard and doing the same thing over and over in his rise to stardom.

“When I was little I scored a lot of goals. I always did. But it’s by working a lot that you become a killer, by repeating the drills: right foot, left foot, volleys, shoulder positioning. And then as you grow up, you also become much better off the field.”

He also credited the change in his game that was needed when he moved to the higher quality of the Premier League in comparison to his previous experience.

“Here in Manchester that’s what happened, my approach to the game became a lot more professional. I learned one thing you have to be very fresh on the match day. I know my level, I know that I can play very well. But if I recover badly, with the matches that we have every three days here then it can be complicated.”

It certainly has been a learning curve for the Danish international as he has never played more games or scored more goals in a season than this one.

In the same France Football interview (via Fabrizio Romano’s X account) he also highlighted the massive jump in quality he has faced this year but he has grown mentally to handle the expectation more easily now.

The striker famously went until Boxing Day without scoring domestically, but a late winner against Aston Villa opened the floodgates over winter until he picked up an injury in mid-February against Luton Town.

“Manchester United is so big, the Premier League is so huge… people are obviously more focused on you than before. It was hard at the beginning. Now, I am much calmer, I no longer worry too much about what is said.”

“I know that I am a good player and that if I get chances, I will score a lot of goals.”

Hojlund will be hoping he can start the cup final against Manchester City on Saturday and finish his debut campaign in the sweetest way possible by lifting the FA Cup at Wembley with his boyhood team.
